A passenger on an electric bicycle was killed early Sunday, November 1, 2026, when a Chevrolet Corvette struck the e-bike on West Palmetto Park Road in Boca Raton, according to Boca Raton police. Why E-Bike Crashes Leave Riders So Exposed

As the Palm Beach Post noted, e-bike safety has become an issue in Palm Beach County and across Florida, and some previous crashes have resulted in deaths. Electric bicycles can reach speeds of up to 28 mph, and cities, towns, and villages have imposed rules on where people can ride them. A person on an e-bike has no steel frame, airbags, or seat belt between them and a moving car, so even a crash at city speeds can cause fatal or life-changing injuries.

After a crash like this one, preserve the evidence while it still exists. Do not repair, sell, or throw away the e-bike, the battery, a helmet, or torn clothing — the condition of the bike and gear can matter to investigators and insurers. Save photos of the scene and the vehicles, keep any video from nearby cameras or a phone, and write down what you remember while it is fresh. If you saw this Palmetto Park Road crash, the police number above is the place to share what you know.

Medical Care, Insurance, and Fault in Florida

Get medical care promptly after any serious crash, even if you feel only sore at first, and keep follow-up appointments. Florida personal injury protection, often called PIP, can pay a portion of medical bills and lost wages regardless of fault in many crashes involving a motor vehicle, but treatment generally must begin within 14 days for PIP benefits to apply. Which policies respond — PIP, bodily injury coverage, or uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage — is not always clear at first, especially when an investigation is still open.

Florida follows modified comparative negligence: a recovery is reduced by the claimant’s percentage of fault, and it is barred entirely if the claimant is found more than 50% at fault. An early police summary is not a final decision about fault or about any person’s claim. Be cautious about giving a recorded statement to another driver’s insurer before you understand how it may be used.
